An Arty Poindexter
groovey!
I enjoy the simplicity. He seems really twisty! In fact, if you don't mind a crit or two, I'd like to say my 2 cent about what I like and what I might crit.
Err, I love the background, if only because the draggy would seem a bit too light, but in front of a strong background, he just looks pastel. The white linework, while I normally don't go for it, really helps the shadows in some places, and makes the mustache totally a win. I think the last thing I want to point at for some lovin is how you posed the guy... twisty, flighty, and somehow fitting over the background just enough that he looks big, but he's still centered and not oversized. I mean, a pose like that gets rid of lots of ancillary detailing and bulk. Err, that's how I look at it, anyways.
I just really have one crit... the neck on him seems to twist clockwise, but his head is twisting counter-clockwise. That is... the chest disappears behind the neck, rolling away from the viewer as it approaches the final sharp bend at the top of his figure, but it would seem like it should move forward more and stay visible for a while. In fact, it should appear to connect with his chin, rolling up under his head and only disappearing when the bend is sharpest. But blah! that's such a nit pick, ain't it? Sorry... but I like to speak those small nick nacks for the sake that sometimes people like them.
The shading is gorgeous too, I have to mention. From what I see, I'm assuming you carefully blend using saturation as well as lighting, and that's so nice. The shadows on his belly seem a bit sharper than the drop shadow, tho... might want to watch that... especially near the bottom... consistency might be a better choice... but ah. Opinions opinions. I just hope too that you'd bring out the green scales more, too. They're awfully pale. Or maybe it's my LCD acting up again *pokes his overly under-contrasty screen*
*thumb up* Great illustration, and seems like you did it in a jiffy.
